This is a list of all of my favorite songs.
Bold means that I think that the entire album is worth listening to.
Of course, this is all my opinion and tastes, however, I do tend to shy away from the artist's most popular songs
Saba - PROM/KING (CARE FOR ME)
My favorite storytelling song.
Smino - MF GROOVE (NOIR)
A chill song by my favorite artist from St. Louis.
Honorable Mention: Zoom (blkjuptr)
6LACK - Alone/EA6 (FREE 6LACK)
The problems included with being an artist signed to a label.
DUCKWRTH - Link Up Time (SG8*)
One of my favorite artists. This album made me switch to YouTube Music for half a year because it wasn't on Qobuz.
Honorable Mention: FALL BACK (THE FALLING MAN)
Rafael Casal - Soul Takers (2012) (Blindspotting: The Miles EP)
This song is from one of two albums made for the Blindspotting movie, co created by Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs.
Daveed Diggs (clipping.) - Air 'Em Out (Splendor & Misery)
All of the clipping. albums have crazy storytelling in them, ranging from morse code, to hidden messages, all to tell a story from other albums. This is next level. It goes deep.
JID - Crack Sandwich (The Forever Story)
Storytelling from another one of my favorite artists.
Injury Reserve - Knees (By The Time I Get To Phoenix)
The song that completely broke me for half a week. Great song. RIP Stepa J. Groggs.
Frank Ocean - Sweet Life (Channel Orange)
An artist that for the longest time I thought was overrated, until I listened to him.
Kanye West - Lost In The World (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy)
This is a severely misunderstood album. Sure, it has it's hits, but there's a story here.
Honorable Mentions: Roses (Late Registration), Pinocchio Story (808s & Heartbreak)
Bon Iver - 715 - CRΣΣKS (22, A MILLION)
The device Bon Iver uses to modulate their voice is crazy. The live version in Paris shows this off extremely well.
Vince Staples - TAKE ME HOME (Vince Staples)
Another one of my favorite artists. This is just a chill song and I would likely recommend this song over some others.
Honorable Mention: Alyssa Interlude & Love Can Be... (Big Fish Theory)
Flying Lotus - Never Catch Me feat. Kendrick Lamar (You're Dead!)
A great producer. I picked this song because it has so much going on after and during Kendrick's verse. Fun fact, I own a vinyl for this album.
Chance The Rapper - All We Got feat. Kanye West & Chicago Children's Choir (Coloring Book)
Chance the Rapper's most notable song. Great production, great lyrics, and overall just great mood. I hesitated adding Chance to this list because he doesn't have a lot of notable songs, but this is very much one.
Jon Bellion - Cautionary Tales (Glory Sound Prep)
An artist that is probably one of the most creative producers ever. Watch the behind the scenes to some of his songs.
Royal Blood - Figure It Out (Royal Blood)
The band and song that got me interested in the Bass Guitar. The band is only 2 people and it sounds like at least 3.
Primus - Tommy The Cat (Sailing The Seas Of Cheese)
One of the greatest bass players of all time, and the live version of this song at Bonnaroo shows him going even crazier.
Paramore - Running Out Of Time (This Is Why)
Hayley Williams has been one of my favorite singers since 10+ years ago, so seeing Paramore come back after a hiatus was great, and the music was even better.
Leo P - BBC Proms 2017
Leo P is a monster. I can't even comprehend how some of these notes are produced from that instrument.
Killer Mike - JoJo's Chillin (R.A.P. Music)
Killer Mike has always been a great rapper, but this song is just great storytelling.
Sidenote: This album has the song "Reagan". While I don't disagree with the song, I think it completely ruins the mood of the album. It's literally the only song that stops me from recommending this album.
El-P - The Full Retard (Cancer 4 Cure)
This song is just stupid. None of the words rhyme in text, yet they do phonetically. How a song like this is even thought of is mind blowing.
Danny Brown - Dirty Laundry (uknowhatimsayin¿)
Danny Brown is hilarious. This entire song is storytelling, but referencing laundry brands (eg. Gain, Arm & Hammer).
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Digital Black (Murder Of The Universe)
I heard a live version and got hooked. This band is cool.
Snarky Puppy - What About Me? (We Like It Here)
Larnell Lewis does a crazy drum solo, in probably my favorite Jazz album.
Dirty Loops - Work Shit Out (Phoenix)
A 3 person band, all immensly talented at their instruments. This song includes a great bass line, an amazing piano section, a great drum solo, and amazing vocals.
Vulfpeck - Sky Mall (Fugue State)
Vulfpeck is always a hit. Their songs are great.
Honorable Mention: The entire Live at Madison Square Garden album
Cory Wong - Hardtop (Turbo)
Is Cory Wong doing a solo? Either way it's a great song.
Bela Fleck & The Flecktones - Stomping Grounds (Live Art)
This band is just full of amazing talent. Victor Wooten is one of the best bass players of all time, and Bela Fleck literally has Grammy awards.
Casiopea - Domino Line (Mint Jams)
A Japanese funk band that changes members a lot, but all of them are insanely talented.
Wolf Alice - The Beach (Blue Weekend)
I literally use this album as my audio test album. It's so good, and the lead singer's voice is almost addicting.
