Music Streaming Services

Alright there's a lot of these, so I'll keep this list to the ones that I've tried, with another Pros and Cons list, similar to the Minecraft Launchers page. Sadly (for me), I've tried a lot of them. This is gonna be long.

Spotify

The biggest music streaming service (as of writing this). By far the biggest community, support, and the most liked UI, but somehow not the most music.

Pros

  • Good Selection of Music
  • Decently fine audio quality
  • Huge community
  • UI is good, and app doesn't have many major problems
  • Support with both Siri and Google Assistant
  • App gets lots of updates

Cons

  • Mediocre Audio Quality (320 kbps on app, 256 kbps on website)
  • Price is kinda high ($9.99 USD) for low audio quality (but justified by music selection)
  • Is pretty "mainstream" (I tend to stay away from the popular stuff)
  • Pretty quiet volume bar
  • Sounds "weird" on high quality setups (like obviously compressed?)

Apple Music (or iTunes?)

Basically Apple only, which I guess accounts for like 50% of the population in the U.S.

Pros

  • Comes preinstalled on iPhones
  • Technically starts at $4.99 USD (read extra note under the cons)
  • Works directly with Siri and Google Assistant
  • Has an app on both platforms that plays music and videos
  • Built-in lyrics (Genius)
  • Has Lossless audio (but only on wired?) (256 kbps without, idk with lossless)

Cons

  • Comes preinstalled on iPhones
  • Technically also starts at $10.99 USD (again, read the extra note)
  • App is awful on Android (reported crashes, pauses, etc.)
  • Android support is basically just non-existent from Apple (because Apple is a direct rival to Google lol)
  • Pretty quiet volume bar

extra note: ok so, technically it starts at $5, but also starts at $11. %5 is the price if you don't want to use the app.

Like, everything is and must be done through Siri. Stupidest thing in my eyes, but I could imagine someone uses it. Still stupid though.

Youtube Music

Literally the bigges source of music. Obviously it's owned by Google, so see that as a Con or a Pro, personally I don't care, but some people don't like Google.

Pros

  • By far the biggest source of music
  • Basically the same quality as Spotify (maybe a tad more compressed?)
  • The start of the loud volume bars! (a.k.a. loud as f##k at the first 2 pixels of the bar)
  • App gets lots of updates
  • Google Assistant and Siri support

Cons

  • Google Owned
  • Is insanely loud
  • No desktop app
  • (Like Spotify) Kinf od expensive ($9.99 USD) for the quality (44.1khz). (Massive selection of music balances it IMO)

Tidal (or TiDaL lmao)

My current music service.

Pros

  • Stupidly high audio quality (1411 kbps)
  • Super loud volume bar
  • Has apps on all platforms
  • MQA, Dolby Atmos, Sony 360 on expensive plan (plus 9216 kbps audio quality)
  • Cool animated album covers (The Weeknd's "After Hours" changes colors and stuff)

Cons

  • UI is fine, but could be better
  • Probably the worst app on this list. (Constant reports of crashing, pauses, freezing, etc.)
  • Is also insanely loud
  • Music selection is lacking
  • Pricey. ($9.99 USD for the cheapest non-free plan, and $19.99 USD for all the fancy features)

Qobuz

A French music streaming service.

Pros

  • More expensive plan doesn't have anything extra other than a discount on purchases
  • FLAC audio files
  • Cheap (for the quality). ($10.83 USD for FLAC 24-bit 192kHZ)
  • Super loud volume bar
  • App and UI are fine
  • Qobuz has articles, panoramas, reviews, and descriptions

Cons

  • Severly lacking music selection
  • Honestly only the selection was bad in my experience
  • Seriously, so many things are missing
